The International Hospitality Programs, or IHP was formed in 1964 to promote friendship with, and to extend hospitality to, international students, scholars, and their families while they are here at the University of Virginia. Initially it’s name was “International Host Programs” which had been later changed to “International Hospitality Program” on October, 2009. Our goal is to promote global awareness – that is, to develop an understanding and appreciation of other cultures, languages and countries. Our overall mission is to build international friendships.

The IHP coordinates activities designed to provide friendship, volunteer assistance, and hospitality to international visitors. The IHP programs include Community Hosts, Scholar Welcome Network, and International Women’s Group, directed by a volunteer board.

IHP encourages community involvement and the development of international friendship bonds. We promote cultural exchange among our members and strive to acquaint international newcomers with the local community and its members.
